Build Europe, the leading European trade association for developers and housebuilders, today publishes a report designed to help European policymakers meet the EU’s environmental objectives and aiming to protect the purchasing power of European households in terms of both home ownership and renting.
Build Europe’s Green Deal and Renovation Wave includes 21 proposals from developers and homebuilders who comprise over 60% of Europe’s homebuilding capacity. The report identifies imaginative ways to make Europe carbon-neutral without disregarding the housing needs of EU citizens.
Build Europe’s report urges EU policymakers to include crucial measures in the European Green Deal and the Renovation Wave such as a comprehensive and widespread housing stock renovation, an enhanced use of new digital tools, an ambitious training and communication programme, and the introduction of financing tools and investment support.
Marc Pigeon, President of Build Europe, said: “If we want to achieve ambitious renovation objectives, it is not enough to support renovation by private individuals or public operators as in the past. It is necessary to move faster and stronger and to do so we must rely on private operators – developers and housebuilders – to restructure and renovate on a larger scale”.
