BRUSSELS, 8 April 2019 – 60 years since its inception, the European Union of Developers and House Builders (UEPC) has changed its name to become “Build Europe.” This change reflects a new vision and identity for Build Europe under the leadership of Marc Pigeon, its President since May 2018, and shared by its Members. Build Europe will focus its efforts on addressing European societal and environmental issues, rather than simply defending sectoral interests.

Filiep Loosveldt, Managing Director of Build Europe, said: “this dynamic new perception within our industry will benefit all European citizens.”

Housing can no longer be seen as merely a good in itself, but as a major pillar of social cohesion and economic development. It is intertwined with employment, education, culture, mobility, environment and planning: housing can no longer be considered separate from the different elements that make up the living environment of European citizens.

Build Europe believes their new name will better reflect the changing dynamics of the development industry. This new identity will now encompass more than just the sectoral professions, and will not just cover housing alone, but will embrace all the issues relating to modern development.

For Marc Pigeon, “it is a revolution in the positioning and approach of topics, and our upcoming Manifesto on ‘affordable housing’ will be Build Europe’s inaugural achievement.”
